Anthony Buchta (1896-1967)

Anthony (Tony) Buchta was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 13, 1896. Both of parents were immigrants from Bohemia (Czechoslovakia.) He was also an artist, who became well known as part of the Brown County (Indiana) Art Guild. I am lucky enough to have inherited many of this paintings from my grandmother who was his cousin. Tony died in 1967. He was not married, didn't have children, and while he has many distant relatives (such as I), I can find no complete biography or attempt to create an archive of his work. This is a labor of love. I never met Tony, but though his eyes I am transported to a New Orleans courtyard, a mid-west farm during harvest, children sledding somewhere that could be anywhere, and a flower garden of lavender.
